Founder's Day 2013

On Thursday, February 21, 2013, the Westlake Council of PTAs celebrated Founders Day. This evening is set aside to honor individuals in our community who have made a difference in the lives of children. At the ceremony, three different awards are presented based on nominations from our PTA members: the Ohio PTA Achievement Award, Helping Hands Award and an Outstanding District Educator Award.

Each PTA unit in the city, including the WECPTA, chooses one honoree to receive the Ohio PTA Achievement Award on this evening. The Ohio PTA Achievement Award is the highest honor a PTA can bestow upon an individual. It is usually given to someone who has given outstanding service to children and youth, either at school or in the community at large.

As the WECPTA Council Delegates Karen Krantz and myself are pleased to announce this years WECPTA Ohio PTA Achievement Award winner, Delicia Ostrowski.  Delicia is wonderful individual always willing to step in and help in anyway possible to make the organization the best it can be.  As President the last 2 years she has showed tremendous leadership skills.  So please join us in congratulating Delicia as this years winner.

Sincerly,
Marie Novak

2013 Founder’s Day Award Recipient: Delicia Ostrowski

The Westlake Council of PTAs was honored to present Delicia Ostrowski with the Ohio Achievement award for the WECPTA this evening at the annual Founder's Day celebration. Delicia has been a wonderfully gracious member over the years and we are truly pleased she has received this award.

Below are excerpts from remarks made to the awards ceremony about Delicia's role at WECPTA:

I couldn’t be more honored and delighted to present the award for this year’s recipient on behalf of the early childhood PTA.

The woman receiving this year’s award is an incredible person – all around. In addition to her many contributions to early childhood…and there are many….she is

  • Incredibly active in her older child’s PTA
  • A huge supporter of our community and schools
  • An amazing mom
  • A supportive wife
  • And frankly, one of the most hilarious people I’ve ever met.

This person is incredibly dynamic and she is always willing to jump in and help – regardless of the circumstance. Her energy and enthusiasm are endless. On any given day she can be found…

  • Helping a friend and member temporarily living in Chicago orchestrate the kindergarten registration process for her daughter who will be starting at Bassett in the fall, or
  • Delivering a home cooked feast to the mom of a newborn and jumping in to administer first aid to the toddler who fell and hit pavement minutes before she arrived; thank goodness she is a nurse! or
  • Organizing a group of community volunteers to do walks in support of our upcoming levy.

I’m thrilled to announce that this year’s award recipient for early childhood is DELICIA OSTROWSKI!

Delicia has been the President of the early childhood PTA for 2 years, and she has been an amazing leader. Delicia constantly challenges us to think through how we can continue to evolve our offerings and continue to make a meaningful difference.  She is heavily involved in Kiddie Kloset. She is a huge supporter of our fundraising efforts. She is involved and engaged in all of our committees and events from Community Service to Health & Safety, and she is almost always present. At just about every PTA function. Delicia is there. She is engaged, and she is interacting with everyone.

Many of you know – as many of you started with the early childhood PTA – that a big component of our PTA is developing a community for families with young children in our area. Through this, we participate in enriching activities with our children, learn about the school system, and become big supporters of our overall community. The first step in building this community is meeting people, and Delicia sets the tone for this in all of her interactions. Delicia works hard to ensure she meets as many members as possible, she easily builds a personal connection, and she makes people feel “this organization is for me.” And, she inspires others to do the same.

Delicia has been a truly fantastic leader for our organization. Her contributions are many, and her dynamic personality, genuine interest in people, and passion for our PTA and community are infectious.

Delicia- On behald of our entire PTA, a huge thank you for ALL you have contributed,  We have been so privleged to have you as our leader, and we couldn't be more thrilled to present you this award.
